June 2016. London Bridges Newsletter Volume 26, Issue 9

Member Happenings Potpourri Dr. Anderson donated sunscreen for Journey of Hope.

Leedela Garza is temporarily wheel-chair-bound with a damaged ankle that occurred at the Special Olym-pics State Track & Field Games in Glendale. Del has missed meetings in order to be there to assist Lee as needed.

The Bergens took a two night get-away to Laughlin at the Tropicana. It was at the Pio-neer, however, where Don hit a royal flush for $1000. (This did not, however, cover past losses).

Special OlympicsOur members, (coaches, volun- teers and athletes), have a few weeks o now as we get ready for the next season. This will include So ball at Dick Samp Park on Tues- day evenings, Bocce at Rotary Park on Thursday evenings, and Swim- ming at the Aqua c Center on Sat- urday mornings.

Member athletes Angel Swen- k, Lee delaGarza and Sherrie Fisher came back with winning medals in their events at State.

UPCOMING EVENTS On June 24 we will again assist in welcoming the Ability Experience cyclists as they arrive in Lake Havasu City from California en- route to Washington, D.C. You may, however, know this group better under the former name of the Journey of Hope. Our club has provided lunch for this group for several years and will do so again at the high school small gym. We are planning to have some Special Olympics athletes there to play basketball with them. Come to Pat Holt’s home (994 Rolling Hills Drive) at noon on June 11 to work on the goodie bags. Pat says it will be a “Surprise Program.” On June 24 members are asked to be at the school at 10:30 AM to help set up and someone will be needed to get the sandwiches at Ed’s Deli. It will not take long, but it is fun.

Melynda and Jon will spend the summer in CA babysitting her grandchildren Brian: Jane and I went to Glendale for the Special Olympics State Track & Field Championships. Very emotional this year? Sandy’s sister, Jean- ie, was here for two days. She went to our picnic and enjoyed meeting everyone Vicki visited her daughter in Phoenix on Mother’s Day going with Joyce who also visited with her own daughter Seems that Special Olympics & car dents are linked. Brian & Jane took their car to State Track & Field Games and someone dented their car in the parking lot. Chris & Don got a major dent at the Area T&F Games at Thunderbolt. We better just walk from now on.

LARGER AUDIENCE NEEDED —Starting with June 22, evening meet- ings will include two City Council can- didates. This will continue to October. It is important that we have as large an audience as possible, especially with members out of town on vacation. Please come and please bring guests.
